About the Book
Book 5 is a new attempt to combine the section "Radioactivity & Nuclear Energy" in Compulsory Part, and two popular elective topics "Atomic World" and "Energy & Use of Energy" in the Elective Part in one book for the convenience of students. As a matter of fact, the chapters on the compulsory topics "Radioactivity" and "Nuclear Energy" are related respectively to the elective topics "Atomic World" and "Energy & Use of Energy".
Physics is broad, interesting and challenging. As a fundamental science subject, it serves as good intellectual training, and it broadens the view of students. It is also very useful for students who aim to engage their future careers in various fields such as medical science, engineering and innovative technology. We are living in a changing world and people have to cope with various problems which affect the mankind as a whole such as adverse effects of global warming and the foreseeable future energy shortage. Currently thousands of scientists in various countries are endeavouring to make feasible fusion energy in "artificial sun" experimental fusion reactors. There have been some breakthroughs in their research and eventually their success will solve the energy problem of mankind. Besides exploring new and cleaner energy sources, we can see many new developments in the physics world which can benefit mankind such as applications of nanotechnology as discussed in "Atomic World". There will be many opportunities and possibilities in the future. You can be a future contributor in various fields of science and the prerequisite is, of course, you should be well equipped with the relevant knowledge in your student life.
